Current polls show that the sleep of employees is increasingly at risk and is not always aligned with the personal, biologically preferred sleep window. At the same time, other findings illustrate the relevance of sleep of good quality and sufficient duration for well-being and physical health. Our project contributes to current research by investigating the relevance of sleep for employees well-being and performance at work in greater detail. The primary goal of our research project is to investigate explanatory mechanisms between sleep and performance. The focus of interest is on changes in well-being over the course of a work day. Furthermore, factors that potentially alter these processes such as sleep type (chronotype) and daily work demands will be investigated. In sum, three studies with a total of more than 500 participants will be conducted. The scientific results of our research project are also of high practical relevance. By demonstrating connections between sleep characteristics and well-being and performance at work, we are drawing attention to the day-specific mechanisms of sleep and their boundary conditions, which should be considered to promote health and performance at work.
