After studying at the University of Paris, Heinrich von Langenstein came to Vienna in 1384 to teach at the newly founded Faculty of Theology. The subject of his teaching was the first book of the Bible Genesis and its interpretation. Langenstein`s lectures have been preserved in nine volumes, which are housed in the Austrian National Library and other libraries throughout Europe. With the exception of the first volume, to this day, these lectures remain unpublished. In this project, we aim to research and to present in a modern edition the third volume, dedicated to Genesis 1:262:25. This section of the Bible recounts the creation of the human being as male and female and the subjection of nature; themes that concern us even today. Langenstein, a curious and polemical mind, linked these questions to questions about, among others, his surroundings, the city of Vienna and its religious diversity, that is, the Jewish community. The project will present and inquire into the academic stances and debates on all these topics.
